More Street Trees Planted On Bilbrook Road

Don’t you just love ticking jobs off of your ‘to do’ list? We were really pleased to tick this one on the 5th March

We joined up with the Forest of Mercia CIC again to plant 8 trees on Bilbrook Road. This job has been on our list for many years and is part of our campaign to plant as many trees as we can on the grass verges in the village.

The species planted were rowan and wild cherry. The blossom will provide a splash of much needed colour in spring and food for birds in the autumn. But that’s not all. Trees are so important as they absorb carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide and capture pm2.5 particulate pollution from vehicle exhausts. Trees also help rainfall infiltrate the ground so it doesn’t end up down our drains or flooding our streets. They also help reduce the urban island heating effect and are good for our mental health. Not only that but it’s said that they make an area more desirable to live in and can even increase the value of your house.

We would like to thank Dave and Kathryn from the Forest of Mercia and our volunteers: Fiona, Roy and Martin. A special thank you to John who also helped us, watered the trees and provided much needed drinks of coffee.
