What a haul!
We had our best ever results, ringing with the Belvide Ringers on the 3rd March. We ringed 9 different species, 79 birds in total. They were:
Mealy redpoll x 1
Redpoll x 11
Blue tit x 14
Great tit x 2
Coal tit x 1
Siskin x 39
Chaffinch x 2
Goldfinch x 8
Green finch x 1
It was great to see an abundance of Siskin. Because we have so many Beech and Alder trees in Jubilee Wood, which attract Siskins, itβs no surprise to learn that they love the wood but so good to see so many of them. It goes to show that if you create the right conditions for wildlife it will thrive. Our ringing sessions are so special not only because we get to see our beautiful wild birds up close but also that we are helping form part of the vitally important work being done to catalogue, survey the habits and abundance of wild birds.
There is also an equally serious message that we must all do our part to help wild birds, such as creating habitats by letting some of our garden go wild, putting out feeders, fresh water and even putting up nesting boxes in our gardens and open spaces.
Once again a big thank you to Colin and the Belvide Ringers for giving up their spare time this morning.
