Balsam Bashing with Moog

Summer brings balsam bashing season again, and in late June 2025, we were joined by 6 volunteers from Moog Aircraft Group based at i54 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. The team worked really hard and we managed to clear a huge area from most of the Moat Brook alongside Jubilee Wood.

Himalayan balsam is an invasive species of plant which has colonised most water courses in England and grows so tall that it outcompetes native plants for resources and light. It is an annual plant so at the end of the growing season it dies off leaving the river bank bare which, during floods, means the bare soil is washed away, contributing to flooding downstream in towns like Penkridge and Stafford which are very flood prone.

We would like to thank the volunteers, who told us they really enjoyed their day with us and are looking forward to coming back next year. We are certainly looking forward to seeing them again.

If you work for a company that allows you to spend a day doing CSR, we would love to host you. Use our contact form to get in touch.
