On a sunny morning in mid-April 2025, volunteers from Bilbrook were joined by the Forest of Mercia to plant another 12 street trees along Bilbrook Road. Greening our streets is vitally important to try to mitigate the effects of climate change and increase biodiversity and habitats for wildlife. Not only that, but trees reduce localised flooding events, reduce noise, capture pollution from vehicles, reduce the urban island heating effect, make a place more pleasant to live in and even increase property prices.
After we had done that another tree was planted in amongst the meadow grass on Duck Lane. This tree is to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.
We want to say a huge thank you to all our volunteers as well as passers-by and neighbours who came out to help us. We are all volunteers at the Friends of Bilbrook and it’s thanks to volunteers that we can do the wonderful things we do that make Bilbrook such a lovely place to live in.
We have one request. If you live near our street trees, please look after them. We are in a very dry period, with scarce rainfall, and our trees need water to survive. If you live near any of our street trees, not just the ones on Bilbrook Road, please pop out with a watering can and give them a drink. There are irrigation pipes put in the ground with each tree, so it’s easy to give them a drink, and in return, you will be rewarded with all the benefits listed above. Thank you.
