Jubilee Wood Moth Survey 2025

We had our annual Moth survey in Jubilee Wood during August 2025 as part of our ongoing monitoring of all wildlife in the Wood. Conditions were perfect for moths, and we weren’t let down.

We recorded 53 species on the night, of which the below 24 species were new to Jubilee Wood:

    • Yellow Shell
    • Agriphila tristella
    • Straw Dot
    • Blood-vein
    • Crassa unitella
    • Pandemis corylana
    • Celypha lacunana
    • Common Waiscot
    • Maiden’s Blush
    • Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing
    • Shuttle-shaped Dart
    • Flame Carpet
    • Old Lady
    • Epiphyas postvittana
    • Brown China-mark
    • Lime-speck Pug
    • Latticed Heath
    • Yellow-barred Brindle
    • Light Emerald
    • Scorched Carpet
    • Marbled Beauty
    • Sallow Kitten
    • Copper Underwing
    • Blastobasis adustella

This brings to 136 the number of different moths that now call Jubilee Wood their home.

We were also delighted to see a visitor pop along to see what was going on. None other than a Lesser Stag Beetle, yet another first sighting in Jubilee Wood. We have been managing parts of the wood by leaving rotting wood piles to encourage this beetle, which is the smaller cousin of the Larger Stag Beetle.

Proof, if needed, that if you build it, they will come.

Please do all you can for our wildlife in the spaces you own or have control over. Let some of your garden go wild, plant pollinator friendly plants even put in a small wildlife pond. Anything you can do will help.
