Amazing Moths in Jubilee Wood

On a Friday night in late July 2024 we carried out another moth survey in Jubilee Wood, part of our continuous project to monitor wildlife in the wood. We caught and released 68 different species of moth, some of which have brilliant names, as you can see in our list below. This may seem like a great catch but what we missed was the abundance of each species, at this time of year we would expect to catch a lot more.

Have you noticed the lack of flying insects this summer? This is due to the very wet winter and spring we have had this year, brought on by our changing climate. You can do your part to help our insects by planting pollinator friendly plants and leaving a wild area in your garden.
